Hadn't even heard of this but the other films Perkins made in this period are all of some interest (not always positive) so I'll probably pick it up cheap in some future saleFrauBlucher wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 11:03 am6k scans?Coming Soon on Blu-ray!

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
Is it possible this was a VistaVision production? I seem to recall other VV films getting 6k scans to account for the higher resolution of the film format.FrauBlucher wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 11:03 am6k scans?Coming Soon on Blu-ray!

Edit: Yeah, it was Arrow’s edition of Desperate Hours.

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
Often, it's not "really" 4k scans to obtain a 4k restoration, since once the framing is properly placed over the scanned photograms, the loss of information will give you a final resolution lower than 4k. To compensate, the scans actually are done at a higher resolution, a method called overscanning, so that the final resolution is once the frame is created.FrauBlucher wrote:6k scans?Coming Soon on Blu-ray!

The Lonely Man seems to be 1.85, I suppose the OCN was scanned at 6k so that the 1.85 extraction still is 4k despite the cropping.

Interesting that they didn't carry over Alan K Rode's commentary for the Rose Tattoo but did the other two

This special edition includes two terrifying 1970s thrillers. AND SOON THE DARKNESS – Two young British nurses (Pamela Franklin, Michele Dotrice) bicycling through the desolate French countryside. A mysterious stranger on a lonely stretch of road. The women become separated and soon after, one of them disappears. Now the remaining girl, alone and frightened, begins an increasingly desperate search for answers among the strangely uncooperative locals. Where is her friend? Was there a murder? And as the darkness approaches, is the killer now stalking her? Directed by Robert Fuest (The Abominable Dr. Phibes), And Soon the Darkness remains a favorite of thriller fans for its sexual menace, sinister style and one of the most quietly chilling final twists in ’70s British cinema. SUDDEN TERROR – Young boy (Mark Lester) with an overactive imagination witnesses an assassination attmept, the hired killers are now hunting the young boy and his sister (Susan George) who escape numerous attempts on their lives while aided by their grandfather (Lionel Jeffries) and under the spectre of martial law. Ace filmmaker John Hough (Dirty Mary Crazy Larry) packs Sudden Terror aka Eyewitness with plenty of tense style, stunning locations and startling violence. Jeremy Kemp and Peter Vaughn co-star in this shocking and terrifying suspence thriller featuring music by legendary British art-rock bands Fairfield Parlour and Van der Graaf Generator.
Neither of these sold well enough to release on 4K, And Soon the Darkness sold well, Sudden Terror (Eyewitness), less.
But we will continue with this series, if this first one does well.
We will also remove 1970s from the final art, so we can include titles from the 60s and 80s.

Unless there's something seriously wrong with the captures, Paramount/Kino has filtered Secret Beyond the Door to death.

Columbo: The Return slated for 7/16
I'll be picking this up immediately after enjoying the rhythm and vibe (even if not most episodes) from the original run. For those that've seen the revival, is this foolish or safe?

Generally speaking the newer episodes are not as beloved as the original run is but there are, to my knowledge, a couple diamonds in the rough so I’d recommend giving it a chance (except No Time to Die which is not regarded very well).therewillbeblus wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 9:53 amColumbo: The Return slated for 7/16

Yeah that's my sense as well. Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
It's been a while since I've seen any of them, but if you liked the 70's ones, I think you'd enjoy these as well. Not as good overall but still has the same charms. I recall really liking the ones with Faye Dunaway and Dabney Coleman.therewillbeblus wrote:Columbo: The Return slated for 7/16

I assume the people on the other forum have soiled their pants at the thought of buying another 4K disc… any 4K disc.

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
It actually makes me nostalgic to remember when John Travolta was an A-list star who could carry a well-reviewed film AND make easy bank at the box office. Not one of the "well-reviewed" ones, but IIRC it was a hit.

All I remember about this film is a lot of rain and talk about someone being raped and murdered. It must’ve been a very slow weekend in 1998

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
So the Kino insider confirmed that all the episodes of this are going to be 1.78. Which is the wrong aspect ratio for all but the last three episodes, which are correctly presented at 1.78. All but the last three should be 4:3.therewillbeblus wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 9:53 amColumbo: The Return slated for 7/16
