This vote is brought to you by Elections that everyone's just sort of disgruntled with.

#1277 Post by Mr Sausage » Fri Oct 25, 2019 6:44 am

You know, nothing really changed, but everything works less well anyway and 1/4 of people are tired and just want to leave. What were we talking about again?

It's a 1940s vote!

To coincide with the current 1940s List Project, here are five 40s films drawn randomly from the collection via some form of wizardry.

I've never seen On the Waterfront, surprisingly, so it got my vote. Suppose I should get around to watching it sometime.

Although I already posted something in the 50s thread, Europe '51 gets mine, as it's the title I have the most questions to put forth for discussion that I suspect will have a better chance here.

This is a solid batch of choices though

Looking like a brokered convention at the moment folks.

Btw, Through The Olive Trees is currently on the Criterion Channel. Nice incentive to watch (and keep my subscription current).

therewillbeblues, our member of the year for 2019 (and richly deserved it was), has kindly curated this round of voting.

The Young Pope’s thread should be twenty pages long, this is a great opportunity for the majority of the board to stop sleeping on one of the great works of art of our lifetime

I just changed my vote to it. Tho' it doesn't seem to have a hope of winning currently, if things turn around and it does, I promise to post my thoughts on each of the ten episodes as I watch them. If anyone else is down to do the same, vote for it too!

My random title generator is bored, we can just let therewillbeblus pick all our films for discussion

I was actually seriously posing a question of what would happen if there was a tie. They’re two of the most underappreciated films of the last decade so you win either way, but you also lose either way too. Life is hard.

Okay I’m fine with you people talking me into giving two hours to movies I had no intention of watching but you can’t start adding TV shows. I haven’t even watched La Flor yet.

The Young Pope is really a ten hour movie, though

Yeah it’s episodic (so is La flor though, which I accepted would be shot down and didn’t even nominate, tail between my legs) but The Young Pope indeed was conceived as a ten hour film and it’s something that I think is very digestible despite its other obscure layers. I’ve seen it twice, each time within either one day or across two, and I’m gearing up for a third before I watch The New Pope (and since I’m treating that as a film as well, I’m delaying gratification with immense frustration til March to sit down with it in its totality, if that helps you believe the commitment to its categorization as a movie!)
