Re: Criterion and IFC
Criterion's art director recently illustrated a 20 page graphic novel prologue for Ain't them Bodies Saints, so that's obviously coming. Probably: Beyond the Hills; Like Someone In Love; Berberian Sound Studio; Sightseers. (no mpi releases)

Re: Criterion and IFC
David Lowery has said on another forum that ATBS is coming to home video in December, so I guess we will know on Monday if it is coming via Criterion or not.

That would be great. I'm a big fan of ATBS.

In that link Lowry mentions that the release will include his first feature film St.Nick as one of the extras. No way that any IFC/MPI release has a bonus feature as an extra. Has to be Criterion.

Re: Criterion and IFC
Unfortunately, it's not. I just tweeted to ask Lowery if he was looking forward to Monday's announcement of the December Criterion releases. This was his reply:ianungstad wrote:Has to be Criterion.
St. Nick, apparently.@DenverCinephile Only as much as I am any month....unfortunately. And to the second question, no, but it'll include something better...
EDIT: Asked him if it was going to be an MPI release, and he replied, "Precisely." Disappointed it's not Criterion, but I'm pleased to see MPI actually offering up an 86-minute feature as a supplement.

Re: Criterion and IFC
Everyone hates Border Radio (though it's claim to being the worst film in the collection has certainly been disputed many times over, FYI). To the best of my knowledge you're the first here to claim this film reaches such low depths of "all time worst", and as you no doubt know many members loved it and included it on their list of the year's best. So one wonders what this comment hoped to gain...

Nah, I like Border Radio. Probably wouldn't be in my top 500 Criterion films, but I like it nonetheless. As far as I'm concerned Solo con tu pareja is the worst film to get its own spine number (leaving aside stray floaters in box sets). I can only imagine most people have wisely avoided it.

Monsoon Wedding was my nemesis for renouncing being a Criterion 'collector'. Any more like Simon Killer and my support for MoC might similarly wither.

I actually had a couple in mind, but I know we're thinking of the same film. Maybe we should start calling it "the Scottish film" in case saying its name out loud brings bad luck - like more of the same from Criterion.domino harvey wrote:Nicely phrased to exclude the true worst film ever released by Criterionzedz wrote: As far as I'm concerned Solo con tu pareja is the worst film to get its own spine number (leaving aside stray floaters in box sets).

Now I'm curious what you guys are thinking of. I suspect it's the Linklater film?

Re: Criterion and IFC
Yeah, I was thinking A Safe Place as well, but Solo con... is pretty friggin' terrible, too. I have purposely cleansed the Mailer films from my mind and in my world they don't exist.

I find A Safe Place is at least interesting to think about even if the movie is garbage (then again I sort of feel that way about the Mailers).

Though "floater in a box set" didn't exclude films with spines. Sanders of the River was also on my mind. A Safe Place is awful but not exactly dull, so I'd give that a pass.Moe Dickstein wrote:Plus all the BBS films do have spine numbers...

For the record, I was most definitely thinking of Wild 90. Next worst for me is Permanent Vacation
