Wait, did CAT O'NINE TAILS legitimately sell out more than a month prior to release? Fuckin' hell.

I guess Cat’o’nine is setting itself up to be the next Apartment, with pain and agony following in its wake?

Yeah, I saw the sell-out listed in the Arrow newsletter and am really starting to worry about my 11/5 Amazon order that is still listed as:
Pre-ordered
Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date.

I think Arrow should stick to Diabolik or BN for US market. This Arrow-Amazon relation is not working for a long time now. This keeps happening every now and then.

Not that I'd like this film but could it be Mighty Aphrodite?
(for Greeks this planet is Aphrodite)

While Arrow does have some sort of Miramax deal, we got a pretty definitive indication from MichaelB that as of right now he's not aware of further Allen sets planned from Arrow.

It will be interesting if it is Blonde Venus. As Drucker posted here a few months ago, Arrow dropped plans to release the Paramount Von Sternbergs due to poor masters. Hopefully the case is that they did their own restorations.

--

Mighty Aphrodite might be OOP in the UK right now - Kaleidoscope released it on DVD back in 2014* (along with Bullets Over Broadway, Celebrity, Sweet and Lowdown, Small Time Crooks, Everyone Says I Love You and Deconstructing Harry) but it is no longer listed on their website and it's out of stock on Amazon. Somehow all the others, except Everyone Says I Love You, appear to still be readily available.

* They proceeded to tell me that they couldn't release them on Blu-Ray because films that old can't be HD...hopefully Arrow or Indicator can sweep in and pick up the rights when their licence expires.

Haha I remember that excuse against the Allens! Still funny after all these years, too

I guess an alternative suggestion would be Abel Gance's Blind Venus. After all, Arrow have been hot on the French melodramas these days, and Gance is back in vogue after recent releases of Napoléon and J'accuse...

There’s also Kechiche’s Black Venus, which I don’t recall having had a UK release

OK but what color would you say Venus is in that picture?

Arrow once did a picture of a bulldog with army sergeant stripes as a clue for Doberman Cop. They are capable of anything.

Since it's such an obvious clue for Blonde Venus, it could def be a fake-out

It is literally the first picture of Venus that comes up in a Google search. Stay tuned for Josef Von Sternberg's Default Wikipedia Entry.

I don't remember: was Cary Grant much in this or just for a few minutes?

Just watched it for the first time tonight. It’s Dietrich’s movie throughout. Cary Grant is in about a third of it, and Herbert Marshall maybe a quarter.

Ok, thanks.
Maybe I'll buy this because I love Cary Grant!
I have watched all of his filmography (sans The pride and The passion), but i didn't remember how much he was in this film.

Amazon UK spoils the announcement: Kechiche's Black Venus, Donaldson's Smash Palace, and most excitedly, Assayas's Irma Vep.

Irma Vep was a very nice surprise. I wonder if Arrow would be interested in bringing out some actual Feuillade, seeing as how none of his works are currently in print in the UK. Silent film is normally MoC's territory, but I recall seeing Arrow say in the past that they would be keen to if they found the right film.

Without much ado, Universal appears to have dipped into their
back catalog for some releases in March.

The List of Adrian Messenger
The Egg and I
For Whom the Bell Tolls
The Thrill of It All

One or more Sartana films are coming, based on a postcard included with Basket Case.
