Re: The Limits of Control
Excellent surprise. I'm guessing this uses the same HD master as the previous UK Blu-Ray (I was hoping for a new 4K transfer partly because the cinematography by Chris Doyle is so beautiful) but at least they're including a few new extras.

Yep. The German Blu was/is region free and English friendly though

As far as I'm aware this is the first UK Blu-ray of this film. I was forced to buy a DVD of it some years back.hearthesilence wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 10:53 amExcellent surprise. Re: The Limits of Control
I probably mistook the German BD for a UK release. I just recall it being an item I had to order from a UK or EU vendor.rapta wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 12:08 pmAs far as I'm aware this is the first UK Blu-ray of this film. Re: The Limits of Control
Was there ever an update for this release's booklet? I still don't know if there was one let alone who wrote for it.

According to the DVD Beaver review this is missing the last 2+ minutes of the end credits.

Re: The Limits of Control
After an inquiry to Arrow, I got a reply acknowledging it as an authoring problem on the disk which causes a premature return to the main menu, and that they have no plans for a disk replacement program.
I am not happy about that. I’ll be writing them again. (Still waiting for my order to arrive. It seems to have been lost in the mail.)

How do we signal boost this? What an absurd response, let’s hope it was just a bad label rep and not their actual official response to what they admit is a pretty significant errorDeprongMori wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2020 2:06 pmAfter an inquiry to Arrow, I got a reply acknowledging it as an authoring problem on the disk which causes a premature return to the main menu, and that they have no plans for a disk replacement program.

Re: The Limits of Control
Does it cut out in the middle of a song, or do the credits play in silence?

Turns out the true Limits of Control were over the authoring stage of the disc.

The movie file is 2 min 30 shorter than the 24p German BD. It's not an authoring glitch causing an early return to the main menu, the file is cut.

Wouldn't failing to fix an issue where the end credits don't completely play be a violation of various guilds' agreements with the studios?

Re: The Limits of Control
Maybe,I don't know, but I was just thinking how television airings have to run the entire end credits (even if they are allowed to speed them up or run them in a split screen.)

Re: The Limits of Control
Not quite, and I know because I've had classmates from film school who worked their asses off as assistants or a little further up on the ladder on various TV shows, and there were a few occasions where they were upset about not appearing in the credits. There's no written agreement or requirement to credit their positions, so it's completely under "producer's discretion." Anyway, I can see dropping song credits as an issue with the labels licensing them, but the point is, if someone is at the back end of the credits, they probably don't have much clout, which means there's probably no obligation to credit them, much less have their credit show properly on a BD reissue. It sucks, but I'm sure Arrow would rather leave it as is if they're not facing a penalty. (They're not a terrible label, but they don't strike me as being so nice that they'd go out of their way to correct that sort of thing.)

Re: The Limits of Control
So it is a matter of when the end credits cut off then? Like, if they cut off half way through the cast, would Arrow then be obligated to fix the issue?

Re: The Limits of Control
The internet shamed them into reissuing booklets, surely we can pressure them to actually present the entire film— something which, to be a little obtuse, is the literal bare minimum requirement for a release on disc. As far as I know, not even Kino Lorber would go so far as to not correct something like this (how’s that for a diss)

Re: The Limits of Control
That was the risk Jarmusch took in ending his film’s credits with “Happy Birthday”

Re: The Limits of Control
Then, why not simply blanking the soundtrack and playing the remaining credits silent ?

Re: The Limits of Control
I'm guessing that was a joke. Anyway, isn't Happy Birthday in public domain in the US now? Not that I could see this being anything other than a QC cock-up that they don't currently want to amend.

I'll edit my post, but I was answering to swo's post rather than domino's one.
