But isn’t that part of the point?

Sisters (It's a shame the film isn't as good as that cover.)
How dare you.

Could it be?! I still can't believe it, a month where I like all of the covers.

I was going to say the Princess Bride design + cover looked like something from Easton Press - but then I checked, and Easton Press has released the book before - in a decidedly plain-looking cover:

I'm sold on the gimmick.

I’m sure I’m dredging up an old discussion. Last night I watched the very beautiful Stalker bluray. With all that stunning imagery the cover they chose is greatly disappointing.

I totally agree! I am glad they are redeeming themselves with the Andrei Rublev cover.

They even turned that hideous cover into a poster! I wish they had incorporated the iconic dunes shot into a cover.

So I plan on buying the Dietrich set but the digipack packaging has me a bit worried. I've had mixed experiences with them, how fragile are these? Will the discs come out, how secured are they? Should I expect a lot of scratching or marks?

Seems like mainly the corners get dinged.

Oddly enough, the DVD edition uses clear thinpaks.

You can contact Jon Mulvaney if you get a damaged outer box (like I did) and they'll send you a carefully packaged new one for $5

Strange. One of my Blu-Ray discs from the Dietrich set has a small crack on the inside lip. I contacted Jon (twice already!) via email to exchange the disc but haven’t heard from him yet.

How fast did he respond to you?

Ok, thanks. I thought it would be an exchange of discs so I didn't mention anything about getting a new replacement disc for $5. I wonder if that would explain the radio silence. But then again they could just let me know a new disc would cost me money.

P.S. Why is the guessing clues thread closed? Not the first time I find it closed after a few comments left. And to think the clue was sent out by C only an hour or so ago. Why not leave the thread open?

Because the clue has been solved.

Have you checked your junk mail for a response? Also, they could just be busy--maybe try again in another week.

It's an immensely irritating thread because the clue gets guessed and then people chime in like aftershocks of an earthquake for days afterward with bad jokes and worse actual guesses, bumping the thread over and over. So it gets locked quickly for the sanity of those that don't see any value in continuing to check it just to see that some user with 12 posts thinks the release might be Fight Club for the millionth time.

Even worse, though, is people who post in other threads to comment about the newsletter clue (you are forgiven) or say "hey, great guess on the newsletter clue!"

Yes, is did check my junk drawer. Nothing there. I will try again next week, though my second sent out email message was from yesterday and a week after the first one.

And thank you for explaining about the quick closing of the clues thread. It does make sense. Still maybe keep it open until the midnight or so, no?

(I was going to add my guess, A Midsummer Night’s Dream but I see it too has been already mentioned.)

No. And you just explained in your parenthesis why.

Although I purchase my Criterions primarily on blu-ray in store (B&N sales), I sometimes browse the DVD selection in hopes of finding additional movies unavailable on blu's.

So as I was flipping through I came across the DVD edition of El Sur and the contents through the clear plastic case caught my eye. It appears to contain inside the same blu-ray edition booklet paired with a DVD-sized insert. I was not intending to buy this title in either physical format, but was wondering if someone who did get the DVD of El Sur could share the contents of what's inside.

I've not heard of Criterion doing this for other booklets across both formats, but makes sense for them as a cost-cutting measure in their post Dual-Format experiment.

The booklet is probably the novella El Sur is based on. Maybe they didn't want to change the typesetting and kept it Blu-ray-sized?
